Hey James,

I’m glad you’ve gotten as much out of the episode as you have. Believe me, while putting it together, it felt like a labor of love so, to hear of your appreciation makes it worth having spent the effort. As you probably know, I did another orchestral project this past spring. Unfortunately, I just didn’t have the time to put anything together regarding that trip. I do hope to cover some of the things that occurred in an upcoming episode. Believe me, it tortures me to not have the time to put out new episodes as often as I would like. Comments like this, however, do inspire me and I’ll get one out whenever possible.

I’ve listened to this podcast probably 7 times since it originally “aired.” Today I was looking through the instrument-to-mic match up, and I think I actually understand (most of) it.

But regardless of my comprehension, this production is breathtaking. It’s so captivating/informative that it hurts. That’s not to say that it gave me brain cramps, it just makes me ache to go record something.

Thanks to price tags and lack of availability, it won’t be hard to fight the (extraordinary) temptation to carbon-copy your mic selection/set-up. I guess I’ll have to blaze my own trail… as it should be.

Thanks and I’m glad it helped pass the time. This particular recording was specifically for the anniversary concerts and isn’t available for sale. I have engineered several other recordings for Shumka that have been released on CD. They include “Absolute Shumka” And “Shumka Cinderella” among others. I think the best place to look for that stuff is at Shumka’s web site at

As always- you produced another great show. Pretty epic this time… Loved the with and without reverb example of the full orchestra.

I love how there was lots of technical bits for audio geeks, and lots of beer bits for beer geeks.

Heh, and I wish I had the time to make each episode this way but, of course, I wouldn’t have the time to have sessions and wouldn’t have anything to podcast about – vicious cycle, isn’t it? Oh well, whenever possible, I’ll do this type of episode gladly. Thanks again!
