If Every Day Were Christmas
Podcast: Play in new window | Download
This is one of those instances where I simply don’t know where to start. Trying to write additional show notes for this one has proven to be a bit more than I can handle. There are way too many people and links involved. The best thing to do, I suppose, is to point you in the direction of the web site for Podsafe for Peace at:
http://www.podsafeforpeace.org
There, you can read a little bit about the project and learn more about the people involved with it.
I promise I’ll do whatever it takes to get it into the iTunes Store next year. For now, it’s available at the Podsafe for Peace site.
Happy Holidays!

yay! new show
I haven’t listened to it yet but I’m listening to the song. Nice job all around.
but why only 128kbps? us nitpik types prefer 320 and certainly no less than 192.
anyway, all for a good cause.
happy holidays!

[...] I just listened to a retrospective post from the talented Slau, the guy that produced Podsafe For Peace and I’m suddenly remembering what it felt like to be excited about podcasting again. If you were around for the birth of New Media (or if you’d just like to know what it was like working with all the other big names in New Media Music), you’ve got to take a listen to this. Slau released this as the latest edition of his own podcast, Sessions with Slau. [...]

Hey there!
I’m a great fan! Love your podcast!
There seems to be a easy way for selling music on iTunes:

I hope it helps…
Mary christmas and happy new year!
Best wishes from Brazil.

Thanks, Julian. I think we’ll go the cD baby route in case we decide to do a limited number of physical discs. Thanks for the tip though. It might come in handy for some other clients at the studio.
Have a wonderful holiday!

Wow. 4 years ago already? It’s almost hard to believe it’s been that long. Thanks for the retrospective Slau. Great rundown of that incredible project.

I listened to show last night. What a cool story. Amazing that you pulled that off so quickly, really amazing.

Great show! I love the song from the first time I listened to it. It is an integral part of every of my Christmas playlists. And now that I was listening to this retrospect episode, I really regret not having heared of the project early enough back in 2005 to be able to submit some backing vocals for the chorus.
By the way, there are some Christmas tunes of podsafe artists which are not part of any regular album and which are in some cases quite hard or even extremly hard to find as a purchased legal download. How about making it easier to get those great Christmas songs by trying to put them on an Podsafe for Peace charity compilation album together with “If Every Day Were Christmas”. Just an idea.

Slau,
I hope you’re enjoying the holidays. This is a great episode, very interesting to hear about your project. Must have taken an incredible amount of time to put everything together.
And putting this episode together can’t have been that simple either. Thanks for doing it!
That short clip where Les Paul phones was really cool.
Keep it up and I hope to hear new episodes next year…

Thanks for the comments, folks. It was a pleasure to revisit that whole project even though it took way more time to assemble and edit than I had expected—par for the course, of course.
Michael, I know there are a bunch of such tunes that aren’t on any album and, while it would be nice to have them in one collection, the idea of making it a charity isn’t necessarily always a good idea. I think songwriters also need to get paid for their work and while I, personally, would probably do a charity in the future, as a songwriter, I don’t necessarily feel the need to make such collections charity projects. It’s all about balance. I’d like to see a bunch of podsafe artists actually make some money to help subsidize their art—now THAT would be cool. Being remunerated for one’s contributions makes it all the more easy to be charitable with future endeavors.
Happy holidays!

Hey,
I’m still in the process of listening to this episode (I listen in the car while commuting). Maybe you answer this in the podcast, maybe not. But I’m wondering how many downloads or CD’s (or both) were sold of the Christmas song?
Thanks.
January 6th, 2010 at 3:14 am
Hi Dave,
I don’t know the exact figure but the first year it was about 1,200 downloads and it has dropped off each year but still sells each season. I would imagine we’re over 2,000 at this point? Great thing is that it’ll renew itself every year—an evergreen, as they say.

Hi Slau,
I always enjoy Sessions With Slau, but really wanted to say thanks for this episode – it was as much fun to listen to as it was taking part in the original project!
Christmas never feels like it’s begun until I hear this song each year. I’d be very happy to help promote a cart “bum-rush” on this for 2010.
All the best,
Bryan / Jesta

Hey Bryan,
How wonderful to hear from you! Much like for yourself, Christmas now commences for me with a listening of the tune and I’m reminded of how things came together. It never fails to give me a warm and fuzzy. We’ll commemorate the 5th somehow this year. Stay tuned.
Cheers!

Quite interesting, well I just wanted some songs and got your blog. Thanks for this one mate
I just loved it. An additional comment or feedback which I would like to give is that this theme is quite boring and you need to work on it but everything else I fine.
March 9th, 2010 at 12:01 am
Hmm, I’ve gotten nothing but positive comments on the neat theme. I have to say, yours is absolutely the first complaint about the theme. Thanks for the comment but I think I’ll stick with the overwhelming majority.
